Because we are 100% volunteer ran organization and dedicate 20-30 hrs a week running the organization, we are taking a much needed break from November 14, 2023-January 8, 2024 to allow our volunteers to de-stress, recover from burnout, focus on our families and to re-energize for 2024. Also, because winter can be a challenging time for those of us who live with Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D), this will also allow us to prioritize our own self-care and mental wellness during this time. During the break, we WILL NOT be available by phone, email or social media messaging nor will we be sending out resources during this time. All calls, emails and social media correspondence will be responded to upon our return.
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), can be more than just the "winter blues". for many. a “recurring major depression with a seasonal pattern" triggered by the short days and long nights of winter and affects 10% of the population, mostly women". To learn more About S.A.D, its symptoms, how to treat it and to get help, visit the National Institute of Mental Health's website. If you’re experiencing symptoms of S.A.D, please contact your health care provider. If you or someone you know is in immediate distress or is thinking about hurting themselves, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline toll-free at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), text the Crisis Text Line by texting HELLO to 741741, call 988 or use the Lifeline Chat on the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline website at https://988lifeline.org/
We have scheduled events to post on our Facebook and Instagram pages so feel free to like and follow us there to stay updated until we return. Until then, as you enjoy your families this holiday season, pray for those who are incarcerated and away from their families, pray for the families of the incarcerated and those who have lost loved ones due to police violence, prison violence, Covid and natural causes. Take time for yourself, enjoy your families (or those who love you) and stay safe!
